World Book Day

For World Book Day 2023, I had the pleasure of teaching a workshop to 60 key-stage 1 children, at a primary school in Lincolnshire, UK.

I read my work book to them about the Parakeets of Amsterdam, then they got to step into the shoes of an Illustrator for the day, bringing one of the scenes from the story to life.

Each child made their own parakeet and leaf expressed in their own unique way. We discussed the names or our parakeets, where they came from and the noises they make, then flew them up into the big tree, so that they could be seen by everybody.

Reception and Year 1 had an exciting visit from author and Illustrator - Lauren Sharples. The children created a beautiful tree, filled with collaged and painted leaves, along with some of the main characters from the book, The Parakeets of Amsterdam. This is proudly on display in the main entrance for visitors to see. Overall, we all had a super day and the work produced was brilliant!
